The Nile is the source of the first two plagues, which is fitting retribution to Pharaoh for attempting to use the Nile against the Israelites. In light of this, it is best not to think of this plague of frogs as presenting merely a nuisance and annoyance to the Egyptians. It is, like the first plague, a pointed theological statement: Yahweh is bigger than the gods of Egypt and will unleash the forces of creation to drive this point home.
