Bach's "St. Matthew's Passion" begins like this..

Come, daughters, help me mourn!
Look!
At whom?
The Bridegroom! Look at him!
In what guise?
Like a lamb.

Come, daughters, help me mourn,
Look!
At what?
Look at his patience.
Look!
Where?
At our guilt.

Look at him carrying, out of love and grace,
wood for the cross himself.

Oh innocent Lamb of God,
slaughtered upon the upright of the cross,
at all times found patient,
although you were despised.
You have borne all sin,
else we would have to despair.
Have mercy on us, o Jesus!
